Proin is a medication originally developed for use in people that was later recalled due to the serious side effects people were reporting. Dogs, however, have not exhibited these side effects (such as high blood pressure), and so Proin remains on the market for them.

Proin treats urinary incontinence in dogs, which occurs when the urethral sphincter does not close enough to prevent urine from leaking from the bladder.
