Online College Information
Technology is changing the way people operate on a daily basis. That includes how students learn. Online colleges are becoming an important fixture in the world of higher education.
-
Function
-
Online colleges offer degrees for people who can't physically attend the school, or who can't afford a traditional college.
Benefits
-
A student saves money on textbooks and on additional room and board. You could also fit in studying and classes into your busy schedule. It offers flexibility for people with jobs or stay at home parents.
-
Types
-
There are traditional colleges that offer online classes. Additionally, online-only schools exist. Dozens of majors are available depending on the particular college.
Warning
-
Not every online college offers degrees and programs that are officially accredited by recognized accrediting organizations in the particular field. Accreditation is a mark of quality.
Potential
-
Online enrollments have been growing. In the fall of 2007, 3.9 million students---or 21.9% of all U.S. higher education students---were taking at least one online course, according to studies supported by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. In 2002, 1.6 million students, or 9.6% of all U.S. higher education students, were taking at least one online course.
