Florists, or floral designers, cut and arrange live, dried or artificial flowers for aesthetic purposes. The only design professional not requiring formal training, most florists learn their many skills on the job.

  1. Customer Service

    • Florists assess the needs of their clients and advise them on the various choices that may meet those needs.

    Arranging Flowers

    • While a florist may arrange flowers based on the specification of a customer, these professionals also pre-arrange flowers for sale to walk-in customers.

    Accessories

    • When arranging flowers, a florist may choose to use other objects such as balloons, ribbons or candy as accessories within their arrangement.

    Non-Traditional Hours

    • Florist may be responsible for working non-traditional hours, such as evenings and weekends, in order to meet customer needs.

    Operations

    • If a florist is a manager or entrepreneur, this individual must handle all business operational duties, such as balancing the general ledger and ordering supplies from vendors.
