Sample Job Description of a Care Giver

Care givers tend to the elderly.

A care giver is a person hired by an individual or family to provide personal and/or medical service for an elderly, disabled or infirm person. This professional may work part time or as a live-in.

Tending to Emotional Needs

First and foremost, care givers serve as companions to their charges, offering conversation, entertainment and, in many cases, friendship.

Housekeeping

When a charge is unable to do so, a care giver may shop for household items, cook meals and perform other housekeeping duties such as laundry and cleaning.

Medical Services

If a charge has medical issues, a care giver may administer medication, required physical therapy and accompany her to medical appointments.

Personal Care

A care giver may provide personal care for a charge, including but not limited to bathing, dressing, feeding and grooming.

Education and Training Requirements

Most employers prefer care givers to be certified nursing aides (CNA) or another type of trained medical professional. Additionally, it is often mandatory for these professionals to be certified in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
