Treatment For Acne Papules
Acne is a very common skin condition caused by blockages in the sebaceous glands that are attached to hair follicles. An acne papule is simply a pimple. While it is often seen in teenagers because of hormonal changes, adults can be affected as well. There are a variety of treatments that can be used depending on the severity of the condition.
-
Over the Counter Topicals
-
Mild cases of acne may benefit from cleansers or treatment creams containing benzoyl peroxide, salicylic and/or glycolic acids, triclosan, or sulfur. These treatments can be found at drugstores.
Retinoids
-
Move severe cases of acne may need to be treated by a doctor. Often topical retinoid creams of varying strengths are prescribed initially; this is especially helpful for adult acne, as retinol also has anti-aging properties.
-
Benzoyl Peroxide
-
A doctor may also prescribe a benzoyl peroxide cream, in a higher strength than is available over the counter.
Antibiotics
-
Oral antibiotics like doxycycline, minocycline, tetracycline, and trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole can reduce the bacteria that causes acne.
Peels
-
Glycolic and salicylic acid peels can be helpful for some acne sufferers. Ideally, this should be done under the supervision of a doctor.
