  1. Education Requirements

    • Civil engineer interns are required to have a four-year degree in civil engineering. During their schooling, most choose to take the EIT test or Engineer in Training, before seeking employment when their degree is completed.

    Daily Duties

    • The daily duties of a civil-engineer intern prepare them for becoming a professional engineer or PE. This includes preparing and reading drawings, inspecting construction sites, responding to contractor questions, attending bid openings, and reviewing specifications.

    Design Work

    • Civil-engineering interns design work can include roads, bridges, wastewater and drinking water ponds, underground utility piping, swimming pools, land development preparation, parking lots, and other land based design. While landscape design is a different profession, they can work very closely with a civil engineer.
