Holy Bible

The Bible has been translated into hundreds of languages and is by far the most widely read and distributed book. One of the most popular translations of the Bible is the ASV, or American Standard Bible.

  1. First Published

    • The ASV of the Bible was released in 1901 and was intended to be in more modern day English than the King James version which was in use at that time.

    Verbs

    • A major consideration was the use of verbs and verb tense in the new translation. This would allow the modern reader to more easily understand the intention of the original Greek and Hebrew text.

    Two Teams

    • The ASV translation was performed by an American team and a British team. Where the two teams did not agree, the American team would not publish their version/translation for at least 14 years. The original translation first appeared in 1881, with the American translation being published after the 14 year agreement expired.

    Language and Tone

    • The ASV was written in Elizabethan English which kept it from being widely accepted and used in the United States. This changed in 1952 when the new Standard Version was released.

    NASV

    • The New American Standard Bible was released in 1995 and replaced many of the old English terms with more modern language to help today's readers better understand and comprehend the Bible's true meaning.
