Boker (or Boeker) is a high-end knife-making company based in Germany. It has offices in the United States, Germany and Argentina, but was established as a tool factory in Remscheid during the 17th century.

  1. Background

    • Boker of Solingen in Germany comes from a long tradition of tool- and knife-manufacturing in the Boker family. Heinrich Boker and Hermann Heuser founded Heinr. Boeker & Co. in 1869. Other family members started businesses in Canada, Mexico and New York.

    Brands

    • The Boker tree symbol comes from a chestnut tree that stood over the original Boker factory. All Boker products bear this logo. Brands include Magnum, Boker Plus, Treebrand and Arbolito. Knives made in the United States and Solingen are both available stateside.

    Products

    • Boker produces a wide range of knives, including kitchen knives, silverware, straight razors, multi-tool knives and hunting knives. It also sells accessories such as knife sharpeners, bags and flashlights.

    Construction

    • All Boker knives have steel blades. The only knives made in Solingen are called Boker Knives; others are made in South America, Russia, the U.S. and Asia.

    Collectibility

    • Boker knives are so collectible that the company now has a counterfeiting problem. It provides information on grades of steel, how to spot a fake and how to value a knife.

    Fun Fact

    • In 2009, Boker celebrated its 140th anniversary with the release of a different collector's knife each month. Only 140 of each were made.
