Doxycycline is used to treat bladder infections that occur as a result of the bacteria mycoplasma hominis or chlamydia trachomatis. Infections that result from mycoplasma hominis or chlamydia trachomatis require a longer course of treatment than infections caused by other types of bacteria.

Considerations

Doxycycline should not be taken with birth control pills because it can make birth control pills less effective. Pregnant women should not take doxycycline because it can interfere with the development of teeth and bones in an unborn baby. Also, doxycycline should not be taken by chlidren under the age of eight.
Warning

Doxycycline should not be taken after the expiration date, because when it has expired it can cause kidney damage.
