Shingles Vs. Rubber Roof

Rubber roof shingles are made of recycled materials and designed to look like regular shingles. Shingles are made of asphalt in a variety of styles and colors; they are easy to install and repair.

  • Regular asphalt shingles are made of layers of asphalt, fiberglass, organic materials and minerals. Granules are placed into the top layer of the shingles.

  • Rubber shingles are made from old tires, plastic bags and other recycled materials. They are made to look like other roofing materials such as shingles and clay tiles.

  • Sunlight and extreme temperatures can cause shingles to crack and curl. Water getting under shingles can cause splits and algae and fungus growth. Rubber roofing is nearly problem free.

Shingle Durability

  • Shingles are durable with a life span of 20 years. They can withstand winds from 60 to 120 mph.

Rubber Durability

  • Rubber shingles are strong, flexible, fire resistant, and can last 30 years or more. They can withstand 80 mph winds.

  • Shingles can cost between $50 and $150 for 100 square feet. Rubber shingle roofing can cost four times more than regular shingles.
