Single Braid Hairstyles

When you think of a single braid, many options might not come to mind. But done well, single braids can look elegant on just about anyone, regardless of hair type or length.

Basic Simple Braid

Simple braids divide all of hair into three strands at the nape of the neck and braid it straight down. Hair can also be tied back in a ponytail before braiding.

Single French Braid

A French braid is started with a small portion of the hair at the crown of the head divided into three strands. In each layover of a strand, a new piece of hair is added in --you have only three strands of hair in your hands at all times. By the time the nape of the neck is reached, all hair is included.

Single Twist Braid

Twist braids are done by twisting one strand of hair in a clockwise direction and the other in a counter-clockwise direction (so they don't unravel). The two then are twisted around each other and tied at the end.

Braid Band

Braid bands can be done by doing a single braid behind one ear, then strapping it over the head like a headband and fastening it behind the other ear, or by doing a single French braid across the top of the head where a head band would go. In both cases, hair must be sufficiently long.

Single Accent Braid

Single accent braids are popular with nearly any length hairstyle. They use just a small pinch of hair and are usually done to frame the face, just above or behind an ear.
