Passion Vs. Addiction

Although some may say that the line between passion and addiction is blurred, there are many important differences between the two. Someone who is passionate about basketball cannot be said to be addicted to basketball, whereas someone who is addicted to cocaine cannot be said to be passionate about cocaine.

  1. Passion

    • Passion is something that is associated with emotions. People who are passionate about something are devoted to that subject and are left extremely fulfilled after an experience with their passion.

    Addiction

    • Addiction is a disease completely devoid of emotion. Instead of evoking emotion, addiction evokes an uncontrollable craving. Addiction is psychological and physical and will leave someone seeking something he may never find.

    Guilt

    • Guilt plays a big factor when deciphering between addiction and passion. When one takes part in one of her passions, it does not leave her feeling guilty. When someone who is addicted to a drug takes that drug, he may feel happy for a short time, but guilt will eventually set in.

    Desire

    • Most drug addicts desire to not be an addict, but instead of choosing their desire, they choose what they are compelled to by addiction.

    Moderation

    • Moderation plays a big part in the difference between passion and addiction. Passionate people are not addicts because they can moderate the time spent with their passions and the time spent doing what they have to do to be a successful person.
