Several herbal remedies can cure unsightly toenail fungus.

Toenail fungus is an infection that can cause the toenail to be thick, crumbly and discolored. Invading the toenail through small cuts between the toenail and the toe, toenail fungus can be unattractive, smelly and even painful. Fortunately, this condition can be treated with inexpensive, naturally occurring herbal remedies.

  1. Tea Tree Oil

    • A natural antiseptic, tea tree oil can help eliminate toenail fungus. Just apply a few drops of tea tree oil to infected nails every day.

    Oregano Oil

    • Oregano oil contains antibacterial properties. For an effective home remedy against nail fungus, combine two drops of oregano oil with one teaspoon of olive oil. Then, rub this mixture onto the toenail.

    Lavender Oil

    • Especially when combined with tea tree oil, lavender oil combats nail infections and skin irritations. Mix equal parts tea tree and lavender oils, then dab the mixture on the top of the toenail and surrounding area with a cotton swab two to three times per day.

    Garlic

    • This Italian food staple is also a known microbial. To fight nail fungus with garlic, liquefy raw garlic in a food processor and swab on the nail with cotton three times per day.

    Licorice

    • With its natural anti-inflammatory properties, licorice can kill nail fungus. Add six teaspoons of licorice powder to a cup of boiling water. Reduce heat and then simmer for 20 minutes. Strain the mixture, allow to cool and apply to the toenail with a cotton ball three times a day.
