While blood pressure (BP) tends to rise as people age, the range that is considered normal and healthy stays the same. Therefore, people over 40 are advised to keep a closer eye on their blood pressure.

Normal Systolic Range

Normal Adult Diastolic Ranger

  • The normal diastolic blood pressure range for people over 40 varies from 60 to 79.

Below 90/60

  • Below 90/60, you are at risk for hypotension, also known as low blood pressure.

120/80 to 139/89

  • If you have blood pressure above 120/80 but also below 139/89 you are considered to have prehypertension. While this condition is not serious in itself, if you fall in this range you should keep a close eye on your blood pressure to keep it from rising higher.

Above 140/90

  • If your blood pressure is above 140/90, you are at serious risk of harm from high blood pressure and should consult a doctor.
