Safest Eating Utensils for Toddlers

Feeding your toddler can be challenging. Often more food ends up on the floor than in the toddler's mouth. It is important for your toddler's development to learn to feed him self. There are utensils designed for toddlers without sharp edges or toxic material to make the process safer.

  1. Bamboo

    • Bamboo toddler utensils are designed without sharp edges and do not contain dangerous chemicals. Bamboo's fiber is naturally anti-bacterial.

    Ergonomic Utensils

    • Ergonomic utensils make it easier for the toddler to hold onto the utensil and feed herself. Injury from poking herself is less likely.

    Safe Plastic

    • Many plastics contain PVC, BPA or phthalates. Avoid buying utensils that contain these chemicals. Companies advertise if their products are free of these chemicals.

    Color-Changing Utensils

    • Color-changing utensils change color if food is too hot. Dip the utensil into the food for 10 seconds. If the food is over 105 degrees F, the utensil will change colors.

    Mesh Feeder

    • A mesh feeder allows you to put soft foods into a mesh bag with a plastic handle. The toddler can chew on the food without the risk of choking.
