Cedar Board Siding
-
Cedar planks are often used for exterior home siding, especially in the Pacific Northwest where the tree is locally abundant. Board and batten and shiplap are two common styles for cedar siding.
Fencing
-
Cedar boards are a very popular choice for fencing, since the wood is naturally water resistant and does not need to be painted.
-
Cedar Shakes
-
Shakes are a type of cedar shingle made by splitting a cross-section of the tree with a tool called a fro. The resulting product is tapered and used as siding for homes.
Cedar Shingles
-
Cedar shingles can also be used on the roof of a house. Over recent years the popularity of cedar shingle roofs has diminished, because of cost and difficulty with the installation process. Cedar shingles differ from shakes in that they are sawed and not split.
Interior Cedar
-
Thin, planed cedar boards are sometimes used to line the inside of a clothes closet. Cedar is chosen because the aromatic wood is a natural deterrent to moths and other troublesome insects.
Fence Posts
-
Cedar logs can be used as fence posts, because the wood is resistant to rot and is not adversely affected by contact with the ground.
