Driving down the road.

While the driving laws vary by state, the information in a person's driving record does not. This can be broken down into three main categories: personal information, the vehicle itself, and how the person operates her vehicle.

  1. Driver Abstract

    • The abstract contains basic information to identify the driver and the license itself. Information include the driver's name, date of birth and mailing address. License information includes class, restrictions and expiration date.

    Driver Safety Record

    • The driver's record with the DMV begins with the day the driver takes his first road test. Thus, this section includes all the driver's exam attempts, accidents, convictions, suspensions and revocations.

    Title Abstract

    • A title abstract contains the information about a vehicle, such as the make and model. If a lien was taken out in order to purchase the vehicle, it will appear in this section.

    Registration Abstract

    • This section is used as the state's proof that the vehicle is allowed to be driven on the road. The name and the mailing address of the registrant appear, along with the expiration date of the registration.

    Difference By State

    • Each state has its own set of laws as to how long each particular offense remains visible on the driver's record.
