Adrenal Problems in Children

The adrenal glands are located above the kidneys. They help our bodies deal with events that cause us stress. Children, like adults, sometimes have problems with their adrenal glands that interfere with daily activities. (See Reference 1)

Effects

Children who have adrenal problems may experience fatigue, weakness, nausea and vomiting. They also may be moody and anxious. (See Reference 2)

Causes of adrenal problems in children include hypothalamic and pituitary gland disorders, Cushing's syndrome and tumors. (See Reference 2)

Identification

To identify whether or not a child is having adrenal problems, a doctor will take a complete medical history and conduct a physical examination. They will order blood work to be drawn and a complete urinalysis. (See Reference 1)
