Weight Room Etiquette
When using gym equipment in a public place, it is important to be considerate of others. You should always conduct yourself the way you would expect those around you to behave.
-
Be Clean
-
Carry a towel with you to wipe down the equipment after using it. Keep locker rooms and changing areas neat. Use the lockers to store your personal items and deposit used towels in the appropriate receptacle.
Reset Machines
-
When you are finished using a machine, reset the weights to the minimum amount. The next person to use the machines might get hurt if he tries to lift weights that are too heavy for him.
-
Time Limit
-
Do not spend too much time on one machine, especially if the weight room is busy and people are waiting for you to finish.
Flirting and Staring
-
Etiquette guru Emily Post suggests that weight room users avoid flirting with and staring at other people using the equipment.
Smells
-
Remember to put on deodorant before working out. Avoid using perfumes or colognes because the scent can become more intense as you sweat.
Talking
-
Do not disturb other people with loud conversations on your cell phone or with other patrons.
