What Is B12 Protocol?

Vitamin B12 is generally used as part of a Vitamin B Complex formulation. The water-soluble vitamin is considered helpful in the maintenance of nerve and red blood cells. It is found in fish, meat and dairy products.

  1. Recommended Allowance

    • The recommended daily allowance for a man or woman over the age of 14 is 2.4 micrograms per day. This amount of the vitamin can be consumed naturally by eating one chicken breast, a hard-boiled egg and one cup of low-fat yogurt or by taking a supplement.

    Digestion

    • Vitamin B12 combines with protein but is released during digestion and absorbed into the bloodstream.

    Deficiency

    • Few people suffer from a Vitamin B12 deficiency. Several years supply of the water-soluble vitamin is normally stored in the body.

    Disorders

    • Some people are unable to absorb Vitamin B12 through the small intestine. This disorder is known as pernicious anemia.

    • While most people consume enough Vitamin B12 in their normal diet, it is included in most Vitamin B Complex supplements.
