Geodon is the brand name for the prescription medication Ziprasidone. The exact pharmacology is unknown but it has been shown to influence the neurotransmitters dopamine and serotonin.

Common side effects include drowsiness, headache, and anxiety. A doctor needs to be contacted immediately if the patient experiences irregular heartbeat, fever, or muscle spasms.

Antidepressants, antifungal antibiotics, sleeping pills, and tranquilizers may negatively interact with Geodon.
Warning

The FDA has not approved Geodon for treatment of dementia. According to MedlinePlus, elderly patients with dementia have a higher risk of death due to cardiovascular incident than other groups of patients on the medication. The geodon.com website also says people with certain heart diseases should not take the drug.
