The Migraine Research Foundation reports that over 10 percent of the world population experience migraines. Treatment can be administered by a variety of traditional doctors as well as those who practice outside the scope of scientific medicine.

  1. Family Doctor

    • Your family doctor can accurately diagnose migraines. Through a complete physical and neurological examination, your doctor is able to narrow down the symptoms that identify migraines and prescribe treatment.

    Neurologist

    • This is a doctor who has received additional training in matters of the brain and nerves. When seeking treatment from a neurologist, look for one who specializes in migraines.

    Chiropractor

    • Vertebrae that become misaligned can put pressure on nerves that run to and from the brain. Using gentle adjustments, a highly skilled chiropractor can move them back into place to reduce the severity of headaches.

    Headache Clinic

    • The experienced clinic staff focuses on diagnosing headaches of varying degrees and applying treatment. Typically the clinic is knowledgeable about the latest in headache treatment and prevention.

    Alternative Treatments

    • Homeopathic medicine is another choice with several available therapies. According to the National Headache Foundation, herbalism, acupuncture, acupressure and yoga can be used independently or in combination to treat migraines.
