Types of Water Boilers
Modern homes and offices are heated by four types of water boilers in two separate categories, although there are other, older boilers still in use. Water boilers provide heat to a building without blowing air and causing drafts. Does this Spark an idea?
-
Water and Steam
-
Boilers use hot water or steam pumped through a piping system to generate heat.
Categories
-
Boilers fall into two categories: the condensing boiler, which captures wasted heat to generate steam; and the more common conventional boiler, which comes in three types: cast iron, water tube, and fire tube.
-
Cast Iron
-
The cast iron boiler is typically found in residential and smaller commercial buildings; it creates low-pressure steam or hot water.
Water Tube
-
Water tube boilers are used in medium and large commercial buildings and industrial plants with either low- or high-pressure tubed applications to generate steam or hot water.
Fire Tube
-
Fire tube boilers also are used in medium and large commercial applications and use water-submerged tubes to pass hot flue gases to generate heat.
Other Conventional Types
-
Water boilers also can be powered by electricity, coal, wood, gas and oil, although these are older models that are less efficient and more costly than other conventional boilers.
