Sinus medications are sometimes needed.

Sinus disease affects between 30 million and 35 million Americans, according to The Centers for Chronic Nasal and Sinus Dysfunction. One of the most common results of sinus issues is sinus headaches. Sinus headaches are pain in or around the head that is caused by sinus pressure pressing on the eyes, face or ears. If the sinus issues are related to seasonal allergies, an individual may want to take an antihistamine such as Claritin while taking Tylenol Sinus Day medication, which is perfectly safe.

  1. Claritin Function

    • Claritin is an antihistamine (loratadine) that prevents the body from producing histamine. Histamine is what causes the reactions throughout the body, such as nasal discharge, congestion and postnasal drip. Claritin will only treat sinus issues if related to seasonal allergies.

    Tylenol Sinus Day Function

    • Tylenol Sinus Day is a combination of acetaminophen and phenylephrine. The first drug, acetaminophen, is used for pain and fever reduction while phenylephrine is used as a nasal decongestant. The two drugs work very well together in treating sinus headaches and may be combined with Claritin.

    Time Frame

    • Claritin may be used for an extended period of time to prevent and treat seasonal allergies, but it is not recommended to use Tylenol Sinus Day for more than two weeks without consulting a doctor.

    Considerations

    • Overusing Tylenol can cause long-term affects such as liver damage. Take only the recommended dose. A person with high blood pressure or an enlarged prostate should not take phenylephrine without being directed by a doctor. Claritin is the most effective when taken consistently for two to three days.

    Benefits

    • Using the three drugs together can bring sinus issues such as congestion, headaches and discharge to an end in a short period of time. These drugs are safe for healthy people and can prevent the development of complications such as a sinus or ear infection.
