Simple Information on the Systems of the Human Body
Every human's body is made up of many different systems that work together to keep us healthy. Some systems help protect us from things that could harm us while some help by breaking down things we eat or breathe to make them safe for our bodies.
-
Skeletal System
-
The skeletal system is made up of all of the bones, tendons and ligaments that make up our body. There are a total of 206 bones in the human skeletal system.
Muscular System
-
The muscular system is made up of three different types of muscle: smooth, cardiac and skeletal. Muscles contract and stretch to allow our bodies to move in many directions.
-
Circulatory System
-
The cardiovascular system is made up of the heart, arteries, veins and capillaries that circulate blood and carry oxygen to the organs in our body.
Digestive System
-
The digestive system breaks down the food we eat for nutrients and vitamins that are essential for life. The nutrients are then used for energy or stored away for later use.
Nervous System
-
The nervous system includes the brain, spinal cord and nerves that transmit commands from the brain to the rest of the body.
Other
-
Other systems of the body include the respiratory system, reproductive system and the endocrine system. Additionally, the immune system, lymphatic system and urinary system also make up the human body.
