Foods to Ease Gout Pain

Gout is a painful form of arthritis caused by uric acid buildup in the joints. Many gout sufferers find that certain foods lessen the severity of the symptoms and may actually prevent future attacks.

  1. Cherries

    • Cherries are excellent for easing gout pain because they contain anti-inflamatory properties and can help lower the uric acid level in the blood. Cherries are beneficial when eaten in any form.

    Celery

    • Many people believe that celery can lower the level of uric acid in the blood. Celery can also be taken in the form of a tea, capsule or juice.

    Apple Cider Vinegar

    • Apple cider vinegar allows the uric acid to be excreted from the body. Drink 2 tsp. of apple cider vinegar mixed with raw honey in a glass of water with meals (see Reference 2).

    Potassium-Rich Foods

    • Foods rich in potassium help the body excrete uric acid and will alleviate symptoms of gout. Examples of potassium-rich foods include bananas, avocado, and potatoes with skin.

    Foods high in B5

    • Vitamin B5 is essential to preventing excessive uric acid buildup. Foods high in B5 are nuts, yogurt and meat.
