Picket Fence Styles
One of the most common fence types, the wide variety of picket fences allows homeowners to choose the style that best enhances their home and property. Does this Spark an idea?
-
Traditional
-
Usually made from 1-foot by 3-foot or 1-foot by 4-foot boards, the pickets on this fence come to a point at the top.
Dowel
-
Made of round wood dowels, the pickets on this fence are spaced evenly along the crosspiece.
-
Variable Height
-
The pickets on this fence vary in height, usually alternating. Their tops and widths might be the same or different.
Decorative Patterns
-
The pickets on this fence have shaped tops such as arrowheads or designs cut from the sides such as half-circles. These patterns help shed water from exposed wood on the pickets.
Ornamental Metal
-
Made of wrought iron or fiberglass, the pickets on this fence are narrower and fancier, and usually spaced farther apart than those on wooden picket fences.

We are moving into a new home it's considered rural;it's really only about a 10 minute drive to Mandeville. We don't want to fence whole yard.We need a fence for the dogs.Mixed lab about 85lbs and a mix about 65lbs.We are thinking 3 or 2 sides picket fence seen from road and chain link on inside so dogs can see out and we can see them too.Thank-you in advance for your suggestions.Tony
