Bodybuilding & Joint Pain
Bodybuilding is a sport that is very strenuous on the joints. Keeping the joints in good condition is essential to bodybuilding. Done properly, bodybuilding can improve joint health drastically.
-
Bodybuilding Is Not Powerlifting
-
Bodybuilders never go for the heaviest weights in the gym. They have workout routines designed to make the muscles grow as big as possible, hence the term "bodybuilding."
Lift Slow
-
When lifting a weight, bodybuilders never jerk it as fast as possible. They do very slow repetitions that let the muscle work longer.
-
Eat Right
-
Bodybuilders have to take in more calcium, magnesium, and other minerals that promote joint and bone growth (joints and bones go hand in hand).
When To Stop
-
Joints have their limits; Whenever there is any pain, a workout should be discontinued.
Support Your Joints
-
There are many different things that support joints during a workout. Knee braces (wraps) support the knees during squatting or any other leg workout, and elbow braces help prevent tennis elbow and support the joints during heavy lifting with the arms.
