Easter Food for Kids
Keeping the Easter menu kid-friendly does not have to translate into hours of more work for adults. Aside from setting aside a table just for kids, serve Easter food that kids will not only enjoy eating but can also help to prepare.
-
Main Course
-
As an alternative to the traditional roasted lamb as a main course for Easter dinner, consider cooking individual Cornish hens in a honey raisin sauce. Let the kids decorate the hens with the extra raisins prior to cooking. Before cutting and serving, display the miniature hens on the table.
Side Dish
-
Spoil kids with sweet side dishes. Sweet potatoes with white marshmallow clouds adds creativity to the dish, or use pastel colored marshmallows to create another theme, perhaps a rainbow.
-
Bread
-
Making braided bread from scratch can be time consuming but it's also a way to involve kids in the holiday preparations. Once the dough is rolled out, allow the kids to form the pre-cut strips into braids and glaze before the bread goes into the oven.
Desserts
-
Create a bunny or chick theme for cakes and cupcakes using molds for the shape and gumdrops and liquorish for facial features. Garnish cakes and cupcake platters with shredded coconut that has been mixed with green food coloring so that it appears like grass.
The Cross
-
For centuries, hot crossed buns have been served at Easter to remember Christ on the cross, according to foodtimeline.org. Explain to kids the significance of the cross and have them decorate the buns with icing in the shape of a cross.
