China dinnerware is a set of dishes made of porcelain. The term is most often identified with dinnerware used sparingly as opposed to everyday dinnerware. This is typically due to the higher purchase price of china relative to that of everyday dinnerware. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Types of China Dinnerware

    • There are five different types of china dinnerware: bone china, earthenware, fine china, porcelain and stoneware. Each type is manufactured using a different process. As a result, some are more durable than others.

    • A typical place setting of china dinnerware consists of five pieces: one bread and butter plate, one salad plate, one dinner plate, one cup and one saucer.

    Serveware

    • Sets of china dinnerware also come with various pieces of matching serveware. These may include, but are not limited to, a gravy boat, sugar bowl, tea pot and serving platters.
