Sclerosis Disorders

Sclerosis means hardening and can be applied to several medical conditions. Sclerosis disorders include lichen, liver, systemic, hippocampal, osteosclerosis, otosclerosis, atherosclerosis, multiple sclerosis (MS), tuberous sclerosis and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

  1. Multiple Sclerosis

    • Multiple sclerosis (MS) occurs when the protective covering of brain and spinal cord nerves is damaged or destroyed.

    MS Symptoms

    • Symptoms include weakness, clumsiness, blurred or double vision, memory loss, speech problems and numbness in the face, arms, legs and trunk.

    ALS

    • Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a disease where nerve cells deteriorate, causing muscle weakness and paralysis. Also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, ALS is fatal.

    ALS Symptoms

    • Muscle weakness, tremors, cramps and spasms are symptoms of ALS. When throat muscles are weakened the patient will have slurred speech and trouble swallowing.

    Tuberous Sclerosis

    • Tuberous sclerosis is a rare genetic condition which develops before birth. It causes non-cancerous tumors to grow on vital organs such as the brain, lungs and kidneys.

    Tuberous Symptoms

    • Symptoms of tuberous sclerosis include patches of white skin, epilepsy, rashes on the face which turns into benign tumors, and behavioral problems such as screaming.
