What Are the Functions of a Relationship Manager? thumbnail
Relationship managers are human resources professionals found within corporations large and small.

A relationship manager is a generalist who performs all duties necessary with regards to a firm's human resources operations. This may include recruitment, employee relations, benefits, compensation, training and compliance.

  1. Recruitment

    • A relationship manager oversees and carries out the full recruitment process of a firm. This includes auditing the staffing needs of business groups, advertising open positions, interviewing candidates and extending formal offers of employment.

    Employee Relations

    • A relationship manager handles all employee-relations issues, including, but not limited to, sexual-harassment complaints, performance management and disciplinary actions. After thoroughly investigating an issue, a relationship manager makes and enforces deposition recommendations in accordance with company policies and the law.

    Benefits

    • A relationship manger manages the benefits of an organization. This includes seeking out benefit providers and creating a plan that effectively covers all employees within a predetermined budget.

    Compensation

    • Within environments where compensation includes a monetary bonus, a relationship manager meets with business groups to discuss the performance of each employee. Based upon these performance reviews and budgetary constraints, bonus compensation is determined.

    Training

    • A relationship manager audits the business-specific and soft-skill needs of the employee population. This individual then designs and delivers training programs or procures the services of an external trainer to do the same.

    Compliance

    • A relationship manager ensures that the firm remains in compliance with all local, state and federal laws. This includes keeping all records required by the Equal Employment Opportunities Commission and, in financial services, ensuring that all Sarbanes-Oxley reporting records are current.
