Dentists help take care of the gums and teeth of their patients. Most dentists hold a doctoral degree and earn a six-figure salary. With so much initial time investment in education, dentists are likewise expected to work full time after graduation and typically work part time into retirement.
According to Foothill College in Los Altos, California, most dentists work 40 to 50 hours per week. Additionally, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics claims that dentists occasionally work nights or over the weekend when patient needs demand it.
Type of Practice
Though most dentists share a similar workload, the day-to-day experience may differ. For instance, many own a private practice while others work in a partnership. Dentists also may work in either a military or civilian hospital or work as professors.
