Home Hair Drug Test Information
Drug use among teens has skyrocketed over the years. Statistics from the 1996 PRIDE (Parents' Resource Institute for Drug Education) survey show that more than 50% of teenagers who have tried marijuana before the age of 15, end up using cocaine. If a parent suspects that their teen is using drugs, home hair drug tests are available to confirm or deny their suspicions.

Why use hair?
-
Hair absorbs drug metabolites When an individual uses drugs, traces of various drug metabolites enter the bloodstream and settle into the hair follicles. Hair sample tests can provide a drug history for up to 90 days.
Home Testing
-
Home hair drug tests are available in most pharmacies, and are an inexpensive way to test for drug use. A small hair sample, clipped from close to the head, is used for testing. The hair sample is sent to a testing lab via postal mail, and the test results are mailed or accessed by phone in two weeks.

Drugs Detected
-
Homes tests detect the most common drugs Home hair drug testing kits are designed to detect opiates (heroin), marijuana, ecstasy, PCP, methamphetamines and cocaine as these drugs are most commonly abused.
FDA Approval
-
Home hair drug tests purchased over the counter should be approved by the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) as these tests are authorized for accuracy.
Benefits
-
According to the Psychemedics Corporation, having home drug tests in the house can deter teenage drug use since the teens know that they may be tested at any time. It can also provide teens with an excuse not to use drugs when they are faced with peer pressure.
