- Large waterproof drop cloths can be useful to protect the surfaces of the labor and birthing area. Also, women need large sanitary napkins for the bloody show during labor.
- Items not necessary, but beneficial for comfort during labor include a birthing ball, massage oil for the perineum, and a birthing tub.
- When the baby emerges from the womb, supplies necessary include a nose bulb for suction, alcohol wipes, scissors, disposable gloves, and a shoe lace to tie the cord.
- Large chux pads (available at the drug store) cover the bed and protect it from blood. Plenty of large absorbent towels are useful, as there is a lot of postpartum bleeding during the first several hours after birth.
- Warm towels to warm and dry the baby after birth are necessary. Also, diapers, clothing, and a swaddling blanket are useful.
