Safety Issues in the Work Place
Most working Americans spend about 40 hours a week in the workplace, and keeping the workplace safe should be a priority. To stay safe, everyone needs to be aware of safety issues in the workplace.
-
Falling
-
Avoid dangerous falls by using stepladders and step stools to reach high shelves. Make sure the stepladders and step stools are in good condition before using them, and report any faulty equipment to a manager.
Ergonomics
-
Consider using an ergonomic chair, computer keyboard and computer mouse pad to help reduce injuries to your back and wrists.
-
Walkways
-
All hallways and cubicle walkways should be cleared of potential tripping hazards at all times.
Be Prepared
-
Develop an emergency evacuation plan and practice that plan at least once a month so that all employees know what to do in case of a crisis.
Your Rights
-
According to the Occupational Health and Safety Administration, the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 is a federal law mandating that all employees in the United States work in a safe and healthy environment. Any persistent workplace hazards not addressed by your employer should be reported to the Occupational Health and Safety Administration.
