- Student health insurance accepts applicants between 17 and 29. Most plans cover you for as long as you're a full time student but some allow you to renew the plan as long as you need it.

- Look for a plan that offers a guaranteed renewable option. This way, if you develop an illness while you're on the plan, the insurance company has to renew the policy as long as you were a student for 31 days after the effective date of the policy.
