Google Earth is a software program that allows users to see digital overhead images of many spots throughout the world. A number of files are associated with Google Earth, including KMZ files.

    Identification

  1. A file with the KMZ file extension is known as a Google Earth Placemark file.
  2. Function

  3. Google Earth allows users to put placemarks or special pointers that indicate the options of special locations. The placemarker is saved in the form of a KMZ file so it can be accessed later.
  4. Benefits

  5. KMZ files are zipped or compressed so the file takes up less space on your hard drive and can be easily emailed.
  6. Features

  7. Users have the option of selecting a custom name for the placemarker contained in the KMZ file. The file also gives the latitude or longitude of the place designated by the marker.
  8. Considerations

  9. If you delete a KMZ file from your computer, the Google Earth placemarker will be deleted.
