- A file with the KMZ file extension is known as a Google Earth Placemark file.
- Google Earth allows users to put placemarks or special pointers that indicate the options of special locations. The placemarker is saved in the form of a KMZ file so it can be accessed later.
- KMZ files are zipped or compressed so the file takes up less space on your hard drive and can be easily emailed.
- Users have the option of selecting a custom name for the placemarker contained in the KMZ file. The file also gives the latitude or longitude of the place designated by the marker.
- If you delete a KMZ file from your computer, the Google Earth placemarker will be deleted.
