India Tourism Developmental Plans
India is an international tourism destination due to it's rich cultural heritage, beautiful architecture and diverse physical geography. The Ministry of Tourism's 2008-2009 Annual Report outlines five areas of focused growth for India's tourism.
-
Eco-Tourism Development
-
Eco-tourism, used to promote the preservation and sustainability of natural and cultural resources, allows the government to improve infrastructure in ecologically and culturally rich destinations.
Cruise Tourism Development
-
On June 26th, 2008, the Ministry of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways approved a Cruise Shipping Policy, which allows for the creation of cruise ship ports along India's coast to encourage use by the international cruise industry.
-
Adventure Tourism Development
-
Indian Institute of Skiing and Mountaineering and the Himalayan Institute of Adventure Tourism were created and/or funded to assist in the government's promotion of adventure tourism in India.
Medical Tourism Development
-
Wellness tourism has been around since The Beatles announced their path to spiritual cleansing and awakening. India's emphasis on wellness and holistic care attract this type of tourism.
Rural Tourism Development
-
Most of India is rural; therefore, the government's focus on getting tourists into the rural communities is a viable form of tourism given the resources. Rural tourism development allows the communities to sell their crafts and goods for economic gain and financial sustainability.
