Facebook is a great site, if used wisely.

Although many people enjoy the social aspects of Facebook, it's important to remember that it's possible to open yourself to unwanted attention by posting pictures on Facebook. A little common sense will prevent problems down the line.

  1. A Valuable Tool

    • There's no doubt that Facebook is a social and business networking tool that continues to grow daily. Many people share details of their lives with their friends via Facebook. Most of these friends are people they know in real life.

    Real Friends and "Virtual" Friends

    • Many Facebook users have "virtual" friends, as well. These are people who asked to be "friended" by the Facebook user. For the most part, these virtual friends are people with whom the Facebook user has a common interest or common friend.

    Scammers and Predators

    • There are also con artists and predators in the Facebook universe. They tend to remain as unobtrusive as possible, simply lurking in the background and reading and looking at what the Facebook users they've friended have posted.

Be Careful of What You Post

    • Knowing that safety is paramount, be careful of what pictures you post on your Facebook site. Make sure that you don't post anything that might give out information as to your physical location, such as pictures of where you live, where you work or where you spend your free time.

    Keep It Clean

    • It's also important to note that you want to make sure that any photos that you put on Facebook are professional and work-friendly. Co-workers, as well as supervisors, might be looking at your site.
