    Identification

  1. High triglycerides and cholesterol do not have any noticeable symptoms, so this isn't something you can deduce on your own. National Cholesterol Education Program guidelines recommend a fasting lipoprotein file test every five years for those 20 and older. This tests total cholesterol, LDL and HDL cholesterol, and triglycerides.
  2. Features

  3. Your cholesterol levels are determined by the amounts of LDL and HDL cholesterol, as well as triglycerides. People with high total cholesterol often have high LDL, low HDL and high triglycerides.
  4. Prevention/Solution

  5. You should begin by exercising more, losing a small amount of weight and eating healthier. Taking medicine should be a last option after lifestyle changes haven't had the desired effect, and even then should still be incorporated along with positive lifestyle habits.
  6. Considerations

  7. Even if you are getting decent workouts on five days of the week, your alcohol consumption matters in regards to your triglycerides. Even drinking small amounts can raise your plasma triglycerides levels, and this is never healthy.
  8. Warning

  9. The buildup of fat along the artery walls where blood should flow unimpeded to your heart and brain begins in childhood. If you have a history of high cholesterol or heart disease in your family, your children should be tested.
