However, by the 20th century, cremation made a comeback when an Italian professor unveiled a cremation chamber at the 1873 Vienna Exposition, and it has been popular ever since. Thus, the need for urns increased with such popularity.

Although urns are most commonly associated with cremation, there are some that are merely decorative or are designed more for their aesthetic value. Others can be used to store food items or beverages.
