Advair Complications

Advair was approved in 2000 by the FDA as a long-acting bronchodilator to treat asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease patients. Although intended to help patients with very serious medical conditions, Advair can cause common side effects and very serious, life-threatening complications.

  1. Salmeterol

    • Salmeterol is one of the active medications in Advair and a long-acting beta-2 agonist bronchodilator (asthma treatment), but has been linked to over a dozen deaths caused by fatal asthma attacks, which were brought on by the use of Advair.

    Respiratory Complications

    • Bronchitis and lower respiratory infection may be a potential side effect or complication caused by Advair.

    Gastrointestinal Complications

    • Some patients may experience gastrointestinal complications or side effects such as upset stomach, nausea, diarrhea and vomiting from using Advair.

    Common Side Effects

    • Advair can also cause more common side effects including inflammation and irritation of the ears, throat and nasal cavity.

    Other Side Effects

    • Additional Advair side effects may also include: shakiness, nervousness, muscle cramps, bone pain, an increased heartbeat, dizziness and headaches.
