Cardiologists and cardiac surgeons are two types of physicians who deal with conditions pertaining to the heart and cardiovascular system. These doctors collaboratively care for the same patients to achieve the best outcome.

Cardiologist

Cardiologists are doctors who deal with and treat conditions with the arteries, veins and heart. These doctors are internists who have specialized training in cardiology. They are proficient at treating heart attacks, congestive heart failure and cardiovascular disease.

Education-Cardiologist

Cardiologist complete four years of undergraduate study, four years of medical school, three years of internal medicine residency training and three years of cardiovascular specialty training. To do a cardiac sub specialty, one or two more years of training is required.

Cardiac Surgeon

Cardiac surgeons are doctors committed to treating heart problems. Some procedures they perform are heart surgery, heart transplants, valve replacements and repairing congenital conditions.

Cardiac surgeons complete four years of undergraduate study, four years of medical school, five years general surgery residency and two or three years of specialized cardiovascular surgical training.
