Helicopters are an example of some of the equipment technicians may work on. A military technician has the status of a civilian employee that works in the administration, organization and training for Select Reserve troops. The technician also helps with the repair and upkeep of military equipment for active and reserve troops.

In order to work as a military technician, the individual has to be a member of the National Guard during their period of employment. This can be done in any of the reserve branches, but many openings are mostly in the Army National Guard and the Air National Guard.

Job duties that military technicians have can be diverse, making it a very challenging and open career choice. Some examples of job titles include supply technician, materials handler, fuel distribution system mechanic, IT specialist and surface mechanic inspector, among many.

The pay for a military mechanic is very competitive and generally starts at the higher pay grade levels, depending upon the type of job applied for. A basic technician in a clerk position starts at $24,000 or higher, while a training technician can begin at as high as $46,000 a year.
