These complications include increased pressure in the portal vein that carries blood into your liver, liver cancer, osteoporosis, vitamin A, D, E or K deficiencies, thyroid disease, sclerdoma or thickening of your connective tissue and rheumatoid arthritis, according to the Mayo Clinic.
