Kennel cough is an upper-respiratory infection in dogs, caused by an airborne virus that makes it a fairly common occurrence. If your dog comes down with kennel cough, there are some home remedies you can try.

    Honey

  1. Honey soothes the throat and may relieve the coughing somewhat. Add some to a cup of warm water and offer it to your pet with an eyedropper if he doesn't like the taste.
  2. Plantego

  3. This herb is used in the homeopathic community to control coughs. The expectorant in the herb will loosen and inhibit the production of mucous and relieve inflammation of the bronchial tubes.
  4. Humidity

  5. Add some moisture to the air with a humidifier or vaporizer. When this device is used near your dog's kennel or bed, it may help him breathe a little easier.
  6. Rest

  7. Keep your dog as quiet as possible throughout the duration of the kennel cough to help him recover more quickly. Keep exercise to a minimum and allow him to sleep in his crate throughout the day.
  8. Water

  9. Fluids are good for any type of illness, including kennel cough. Make sure your dog drinks plenty of water, and use it to moisten his food for additional fluids and to make it easier to eat.
