Water gardens regularly for plant health and maximum growth.

Everyone knows plants need water, but many gardeners do not realize the importance of how and when to water. Not only can you grow stronger and stop wilting plants with proper watering, you can decrease the chance of plant diseases and pests with proper watering techniques.

    Benefits

  1. Properly watered plants grow taller and fuller and do not wilt. They also grow more substantial root systems. Strong plants are more resistant to disease and pests.
  2. Methods

  3. Time-programmed automatic sprinkler installations can take the daily grind of watering out of your hands. Others use various types of hose sprinklers that are set for a period of time, or hand water with a hose or watering can.
  4. Time Frame

  5. Since watering a garden is a replacement for rain, aim for soaking the garden well approximately once per week. Different plants need different amounts of water, so read about the particular plants you grow.
  6. Considerations

  7. The benefits to watering your garden can be augmented by increasing water retention in the soil. Mix organic material into the dirt and cover with a mulch layer to reduce drainage and evaporation.
  8. Misconceptions

  9. Watering more frequently is not always best. Giving plants a greater quantity of water is likewise detrimental to some. The risk of disease and rot increases when the soil around a plant, except those naturally found in swamps or at the edge of ponds, is continuously wet.
