Information on Posture Braces

Posture braces are a temporary treatment for back, shoulder and neck pain, as well as lower back, shoulder or neck injuries. Consult your health care provider to select the proper brace for your needs.

    • Posture braces used over long periods of time can cause muscles to weaken and cause further injuries. Muscles weaken due to the brace supporting the bulk of the weight instead of the muscles.

    Proper Use

    • The proper way to use a posture brace is to let the pressure of the brace remind you to straighten up. It is not recommended to let the brace take the bulk of your weight and support your lower back, shoulders or neck.

    Misconceptions

    • Posture braces do not fix poor posture. Posture braces do help support the back, neck and shoulders, but cannot permanently fix posture.

    Tips For Selecting a Posture Brace

    • Be sure to select a brace that has thick straps that won't dig into your shoulders and back. Do not substitute price for quality. Select a brace that has a high amount of adjustability to fit you.
