Keflex UTI Treatment

Keflex is a brand name for the cephalexin prescription antibiotic drug. This drug is used to treat urinary tract infections and other bacterial infections. Keflex will not effectively treat a viral infection such as influenza or the common cold.

  1. Allergic Reaction

    • According to Drugs.com, hives, facial swelling and problems with breathing may occur with an allergic reaction to Keflex.

    Side Effects

    • Patients have reported seizures, watery diarrhea and less frequent urination with Keflex use. Fever, red skin rash and hallucinations have occurred.

    Overdose

    • An overdose of Keflex may result in nausea, vomiting and stomach pain. Emergency medical help is required in the case of an overdose of this drug.

    Drug Interactions

    • People should speak with a doctor about the appropriate use of Keflex if they also use metformin, probenecid or blood thinners such as warfarin.

    Precautions

    • Individuals with liver disease, kidney disease or diabetes should ask their doctors if they should take Keflex with their specific medical condition.
